Hello everyone,
I am a current student at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, India. I would be happy to take questions from prospective students.
Just a little note on the school - ISB has a one year MBA program. It has tie-ups with Wharton, Kellogg and LBS, and shares faculty with these schools. For further information, you could visit the school's website at www.isb.edu .

| A one-year program does not allow us to spend a few months on internships. The way out is to work from the campus itself on projects for corporates. The program is called Experiential Learning Project (ELP). Each project is undertaken by 4-6 ISB students and is mentored by a faculty member. The total time commitment on the part of the student team would be approximately 400 hours over a ten-week period. Students get an opportunity to demonstrate the business value of our new knowledge outside of the classroom setting. ELP does not offer a stipend, with only basic out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed to us. |

Hello Raja,
I would like to have views on making a mid-career switch by doing MBA from the ISB. I am a Mechanical Engineer aged 38 years (16 years engineering experience) working in the Oil and Gas Industry. Have worked in multinationals like Bechtel, Technip etc. What sort of placements in India can one expect post-ISB, if I choose my areas of interest as Leadership, Marketing.

Hi Raja,
What do you think about my chances in ISB ?
GMAT score : 720
Academic not very solid but slightly better than average
Work exp : 3 years TCS ( including 1 year in UK )
decent recommendation from seniors and from client as well
little bit experience of voluntary services ( 2 months )
for NHS ( Government hospital in UK )
n can you also suggest me any place from where i can get help for
the essys n wht shd i emphasize on in my applications

About 2% students at ISB are older than 35. They are here because they want to switch functions. It is slightly difficult to place such students into their preferred roles, because recruiters do not generally come to campus looking to fill senior management positions.
Going by past records, eventually these students are able to find what they are looking for.
I suggest you contact the ISB by visiting www.isb.edu and asking to be put in touch with students who fit your profile.

We do not get many such students. This year, the foreign student ratio is only 2%. Then there are some exchange students from Kellogg etc who come down here.
These numbers are likely to go up in the coming years.

You have a good profile. I cannot comment on your chances based on this information alone, as the admission criteria involves many more parameters.
Please download the ISB application form from www.isb.edu and start working on the essays. I cannot suggest any place where you can get help with essays, but it is usually a good idea to get your friends' opinion.
Different essays ask for different things, so the emphasis would keep changing. Try to bring out your leadership potential and highlight your achievements at work.

Wish to know why ISB has such a low number of international offers inspite of the claims that it is a global school. Are there any steps ISB is taking to increase international firms visiting the campus for recruitment ? Can we expect to see the number of international offers increase in next two years?
Another question is regarding the career shift. Since, its just one year program and recruitments happen in Nov-Dec if not sooner, what could be an addition done in 6 months to any ISB student that he/she gets a place in wall street or work for an M&A equation in some consulting assignment. In short, what is a typical profile of a student which makes it finally to the IB or McK kind of firms. Is it that, CAs or someone already working on such roles/functional areas are the ones who get into these firms ? How do ISB help if someone wish to switch the industry altogether such as switching from IT to IB rather than switching just roles such as from project deliveries to business development.
Please let us know your views on the above questions for us to be better aware of what to expect out of ISB and make a practical decision regarding admission.

| I am interested in MBA in the field of Economics and Public Policy. I saw that ISB offers this selection. What are the recruitment options? How would you rate ISB professors in this area? I am targeting institutions like UN, World Bank, ADB post MBA. Please advise where ISB fits in. Also, it will be a major career shift for me as I am currently with IT. So, will one-year ISB program be sufficient? |

Its listed on isb webite that the school is not accredited by AICTE. WIll that stop students from enrolling to PHD programs in the USA?

Hi! Raja,
I am interested in applying to ISB for a course specialising in Finance (Portfolio Management). I have 7 years of work experience in the IT field and I am at present working for a client in UK. What are the job chances of someone who wants to shift career from IT to IB since the course is only for a year? Since my present assignment will get over sometime in March, is it possible (if selected!!) for me to have my interview in London (alumni/phone)
