Hi. I have a 3.6 W and a 4.3 UW. However, I have faced lots of adversity during my high school career. For instance, I broke my arm in the second semester of 9th grade, had bronchitis during the first semester of 10th grade, had mono during final exams month during 10th grade, and had 2 really close family friends die in the first semester of 11th grade. This semester, I have been getting sick every now and then. All this has affected my class rank and GPA. I am still in the top 10% of my class though. However, I still have a 35 ACT and a 2310 SAT. I play tennis and violin competitively, I am a member of Interact club, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honors Society, Science Club, International Cultural Association, Indian Student Association, Habitat for Humanity, and Beta Club. I ran for president of Mu Alpha Theta, Interact Rotary Club, and National Honors Society. I got the 2nd highest number of votes in all of them. Though I was not made officer, I still ran and showed initiative. Also, people look at me as one who would make a good leader. I also have community service hours through volunteering. I am the winner of the 2010 Yale Science and Engineering Award. I also won 6th place Alg. II at the Louisiana Mu Alpha Theta Convention. I also won in a school wide literary contest in poetry. I also won 3rd place in the Greater Baton Rouge Tennis Championships in 2008. I also won 12th place in the Log 1 Mathematics Contest in Algebra 2 in 2008. I also made the 2009 All-State Orchestra. I have won other smaller awards too. Could you please tell me my chances at Rice University? Will my GPA affect everything?

Hi and thanks for joining Admissions Boards!

I would think if you can explain your grades, you should be competitive.

Best of luck!
