I am a 22 years old and would love a medical career.however when was 18 obtained criminalconvictions for shoplifting and obtain goods by deception.I have learned from my mistakes and want to build a future for myself and child.does anybody know whether these offences are serious enough to prevent me being accepted to medical school?
I think it would be a considerable problem. If you are now on the "straight and narrow", regardless of your career path, I would suggest you speak with an attorney to find out the possibility of having your criminal record expunged. Depending upon the severity and number of convictions, it might be possible and would certainly be of benefit regardless of whatever else you might pursue.
Since most researchers are "on the take from big pharma" prior conviction could been seen as a major asset. It would either make you more effective as a grant recipient or it would permit you you use your experience to fight corruption.
Just wondering if either of you, or anyone else, has gone through the med school application with a criminal record yet. How did it turn out? I am in the same boat right now and am worried that a teenage mistake will keep me from pursuing medicine.
